Guiding patients through the challenges of cancer treatment and recovery.
The reality is that with every diagnosis of cancer comes fear, anxiety, even confusion. Patients are faced with crucial decisions and have an urgent need for information they can trust. But most of all, patients need someone to help guide them through the challenges and barriers that cancer treatment presents.
The UAB Health System Cancer Community Network has been awarded a $15 million grant to help create a national model for decreasing the cost of cancer care by as much as $50 million over a three year period. To meet this goal, we were tasked with addressing and resolving the barriers patients encounter during their cancer journey. It’s toward this effort that the Patient Navigator workforce was created — non-clinical men and women whose job is to make navigating the health system easier.
